Third-party certifications

Part of our commitment to continual improvement is seeking certifications to hold ourselves to higher standards.

Leaders in certification

In 2005, we were the first Canadian aquaculture company to have our Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to the international ISO 14001 EMS standard.

In 2009 our Quality Management System was certified to ISO 9001 standards. We are the only Canadian salmon farming company to hold this certification.

In 2009 our Occupational Health and Safety Management System was certified to OHSAS 18001, and in 2021 transitioned to ISO 45001 standards. We are the only Canadian salmon farming company to hold this certification.

In 2011 our Food Safety Management System was certified to ISO 22000 standards. We are the only Canadian salmon farming company to hold this certification.

We were the first salmon farming company in the world to meet the BAP standard established by the Global Seafood Alliance. We achieved the certification for our Brent Island farm in 2011.

In 2011 Cermaq Canada received the FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance's Certificate of Recognition (COR), (now known as OSSE), only the second large company in B.C. to do so and the first salmon farming company in BC to have earned this achievement.

In 2015, Cermaq Canada was the first salmon farming company in Canada to have multiple farms certified to the ASC standard, and the second company in Canada to earn this prestigious certification.
